KUCHING: Over RM600,000 in donations have been received by the 2019 Charity Golf for Rural Kids Education Fund Raising Project committee so far, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah who is also the charity golf tournament patron said they hoped to raise over RM1 million donations for this year’s 2019 Sarawak Charity Golf event.
Some of the donors including Sarawak Energy, Dialog Group, Press Metal and O&M Materials Sarawak were present yesterday to hand over their contributions to the tournament.
At the event, Sarawak Energy, Dialog Group, and Press Metal handed over RM100,000 while O&M Materials Sarawak gave RM50,000.
Uggah in his speech earlier said the state welcomed support from everyone to help rural communities, especially in meeting the educational needs of children in school.
“I am pleased to announce that today’s launch and media event is to kick start the 2019 Sarawak Charity Golf tournament to continue our education fund raising for the rural and needy children in Sarawak.
“I am also delighted to say that last year we received overwhelming support for the benevolent fund project with RM1,025,000 in donations collected from 62 generous corporations and individuals across the country.
“The proceeds benefitted 1,041 pupils in 16 primary schools, stricken by floods back then. The aid has certainly given financial relief to families who work hard to keep their children in school,” he said at the launching of 2019 Charity Golf for Rural Kids Education Fund Raising Project at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) here yesterday.
Held for the first time in 2017, the charity golf event was mooted by a group of volunteers around the state led by Datuk Richard Lee, as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to support rural children badly affected by the floods.
Based on the positive feedback that the committee received from the schools, they have decided to continue this meaningful charity event in 2019. Organised in collaboration with KGS, Sarawak Energy and MyKasih Foundation, this event is set for Apr 28 at KGS.
